Horse Training Internship

An intern's primary responsibility would be to work directly with our horses. Since we have a full time barn manager who cleans the stalls, turns out the horses, and maintains the property, an intern would seldom be asked to do such tasks.

Our conditioning and training program is eclectic and focused on effective communication with the horse. We utilize a wide variety of techniques including the strategies developed by such well known horse experts as clinicians John Lyons and Clinton Anderson, and clicker trainer Alexandra Kurland. . While we do a lot of ground work, most of our current horses are at the point where they can be ridden but need to be finished. We use a lot of colt loping and "passenger riding" in order to teach the basics.

The tuition is variable depending on the experience of the applicant. Since it takes time to teach someone how to ride our horses in the manner in which we want them ridden, we require at least a three month, five day a week committment. However, we are open to flexible scheduling and interns who can only ride for part of a day. Local area residents as well as out of state interns are welcome to apply.

NOTE: We also offer some summer interships. Summer interns would need to make a six week, five day a week committment.
